DTN Closing Livestock Comment 07/31 15:56
Packers Panicked and Dumped Cattle Contracts

Some light cash cattle trade developed in Nebraska at $383, which is $3.00
higher than last week's weighted average, but the South remained quiet.

GENERAL COMMENTS:

What an absolutely mess of a day for the cattle complex as traders let both
the live cattle and feeder cattle contracts flounder lower through Thursday's
close. But even so, some light cash cattle trade was noted in the North at
$3.00 higher than last week's weighted average. September corn is up 2 1/4
cents per bushel and August soybean meal is up $1.10. The Dow Jones Industrial
Average is down 330.30 points and the NASDAQ is down 7.22 points.
